Our Values

At the AAN, a set of values & key principles shape our culture. The values in this word cloud can be distilled into our 3 core values:

• Practical: Our ideas need to be actionable, clear, effective, and sustainable in the world and in our lives.

• Regenerative: Our actions break free from the unsustainable status quo, both healing harm and injustices of the past, as well as creating new systems of wellbeing to lead us to a brighter future.

• Evolution: We acknowledge humanity’s profound impact in the natural systems of which we are part, and are dedicated to being more intentional in our participation in our global ecosystems and culture, mindfully shaping our future in collaboration with all life.

We strive to make our work applicable to the actions that accounting professionals take on a day-to-day basis.

“Permission to Play” Values

In addition to our 3 core values, we have a few “Permission to Play” values that are essential for your participation in the network. These are minimum standards that we hold for our members and collaborators. Individuals and organizations that don’t share these values are not a good fit for our community. 

They include:

• JEDI (Justice, Equity, Diversity, & Inclusion): This is the terminology used to describe social, cultural, political, and economic issues surrounding race, ethnicity, gender, sexuality, religion, and other categories used to create division among people. Understanding that we are all on different journeys when it comes to our awareness around these issues, it is expected that you will remain committed to being a JEDI supporter. To assist you on this journey, we offer JEDI training.

• Caring-Kindness: We expect members to be compassionate and show empathy by creating space for people to express their feelings & experiences without feeling judged, and especially when you may have conflicting views. Lean in to understand rather than countering or rejecting another’s perspective or ideas.

• Inviting-Welcoming: We actively seek to create an inviting & welcoming environment. We request that you support this by remaining aware of who is in the space & allowing for new voices to emerge. Please take an active part in engaging with other members, especially newcomers to the group. 

• ResponsABLE: We acknowledge that we have 

the ability to respond in ways that center collective care even when we encounter triggering situations. We seek ways to self regulate and to keep connections open through difference.
Positive Attitude: We cultivate grounded optimism, by uplifting, encouraging, and empowering one another to create the changes we each want to see in the world.
